GARDENING INSPIRATION ON BUDGET
GARDENING INSPIRATION ON BUDGET
Raised beds are a great option for pretty much any garden situation, especially if you only have a small amount of space.

Forget about buying expensive planters or fancy gardening equipment - we're getting our green thumbs on a budget! One genius idea is to transform old car tires into raised garden beds for our seasonal flowers. Not only does it give our garden a unique and eco-friendly touch, but it's also a great excuse to get out the spray paint and unleash our inner graffiti artist (thank you, Reno Depot!).

So let's roll up those sleeves, grab some paint cans, and turn those old tires into masterpieces that would make Michelangelo wish he had chosen horticulture instead of sculpting. Your wallet will thank you, and your garden will radiate with personality - all while keeping your gardening budget in check!

Just imagine the burst of colors and life these painted tire planters will bring to your backyard. You can go wild with different patterns and hues, making your neighbors drool with envy over your hip and budget-savvy gardening skills.

Is it Safe to Grow Food in Tires?

By utilizing old car tires as planters, gardening enthusiasts can contribute to reducing waste and repurposing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. This eco-friendly approach aligns with sustainable gardening practices and promotes environmental consciousness.

As you can see from the left picture, on the first year I planted vegetables. I did survive 🙂 but since then I have learned that tires are toxic because they contain a host of chemicals and metals that should not be in the human body . Although there is a certain amount of leaching happening at all times, its level is not particularly well known yet.

On the other hand, by the time it reaches your garden, the tire is breaking down very slowly, more on a scale of decades, and the amount of chemicals that end up in your food is probably negligible.

Flowers or Vegetables?

Learning all this, my personal choice in the end is to plant only flowers inside of the old car tires.

What would you plant?
